Poker Night: Plans

Well, it's been a while, hasn't it?

After a longer-than-planned hiatus, Zombie Roomie is officially back! And, barring any unforeseen disasters (zombie-related or otherwise), we'll be returning to regular Monday updates*.

The timing couldn't be better, either. Today, October 26th, marks 17 years since Zombie Roomie first launched back in 2009! It's kind of wild to think I've been drawing these characters for that long, even if they've spent a little more time on the sidelines than I'd have liked.

As for today's comic, we're kicking off an arc that I was actually planning to do before the hiatus. The problem wasn't figuring out where the story was going, but getting everyone there. Originally, the arc was supposed to take place in the Underground City, but so much of the story was becoming about getting the characters to that location that the whole thing started to stall.

Eventually, I decided to move the action to George and John's apartment instead. Once I made that change, everything became a lot easier to figure out. Sometimes you get so caught up in getting your characters somewhere that you forget you can just bring the story to them.

Speaking of familiar faces, John has finally gotten his reboot makeover! George and the others have already had their redesigns, but John was still waiting for his turn. He's now sporting an updated look that fits the reboot's art style while still looking like the big guy we've known for years.

There's plenty more to come, and I'm looking forward to getting back into the rhythm of telling these stories.

Thanks to everyone who's stuck around during the hiatus, and welcome to anyone who's just discovering the comic.

Here's to 17 years of Zombie Roomie, second chances, and plenty more Mondays* to come!

*When I get out of this arc and go back to single row strips, I'm anticipating a better level of productivity to allow for more frequent updates.
